Athens, 2 June 2022 – Hellas Sat has received from the ITU Secretary General the Award of Champion, during the WSIS (Word Summit on the Information Society) Prizes 2022 Ceremony, on Wednesday, 1 June 2022 in ITU HQ, with the participation of all countries.

Hellas Sat has been selected amongst 660 nominees during WSIS Prizes 2022 for Expanding Access to High-Impact Social, Health, Education Resources across Africa during COVID-19. In addition, it has partnered up with Africom Holdings to assist the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Hellas Sat has provided free, unlimited satellite broadband connectivity to 127 public clinics and hospitals across the country thus ensuring health information gathering, access to patients’ vital medical history and facilitation of interconnectivity of vaccination centers.

The deployment was undertaken by Africom Holdings which resuscitated connectivity to infrastructure that was initially set up in 2016 at various clinics and hospitals but due to challenges in accessing adequate foreign currency to pay monthly rentals the sites had been idle.

“It is a great honor to receive this award today as a recognition of Hellas Sat’s contribution in the fight against the pandemic by providing satellite connectivity to critical infrastructure. I would like to thank the Governments of Greece and Cyprus for their continuous support as well as Hellas Sat team for their exceptional performance in expanding company’s services”
Christodoulos Protopapas, CEO of Hellas Sat.
